Thanks to the vision and support of the Vice President of Facilities and Real Estate Services, the Vice Provost for University Life and the University Landscape Architect, the Penn Women's Center will soon have a new garden that will advance our mission to support the personal and professional lives of Penn women, their friends and families. This beautiful and intimate garden will provide a unique, welcoming space for reading or relaxing on a brick terrace among lush plantings. It will also feature a stone fireplace and grill to promote informal gatherings, as well as educational "edible" planting beds to encourage community participation.
Funding opportunities will include benches, trees, garden art, planters, carved stone pavers or recognition on a Founders Plaque. Major gift opportunities will include program endowments and the naming of the garden.
We’re planning to have at least one of the planting beds managed by a team of gardening enthusiasts at Penn. In this educational bed we’ll grow herbs and vegetables alongside ornamental shrubs and flowers. We’re looking for volunteers willing to donate 1-2 hours a month and/or serve on our garden steering committee.
Our planting color scheme for the garden will be gold, white and purple in honor of the American Suffragist movement. If you have a favorite plant that works with this theme that you’d like to donate, please contact us.
